Kuwait’s Alghanim Industries is planning to open 30 new F&B outlets in the GCC next year under the Wendy’s and Costa Coffee brands, the company’s vice president of food and beverage, Phil Broad, told Caterer Middle East in a recent interview. “We’ll open three more Wendy’s in Dubai, and we’re looking at a couple of locations in Abu Dhabi, then we’ll open four or five in Kuwait. We’ll open another 13 or 14 Costa Coffees in Kuwait as well, and then we’re going to put five or six locations in Saudi Arabia. That will keep us busy next year — doing nearly 30 outleta is nearly one every couple of weeks,” Broad said. Alghanim Industries signed a master franchise agreement with The Wendy’s Company in February 2015, acquiring the exclusive rights to develop all Wendy’s operational outlets in the UAE and open additional stores across the Middle East and North Africa in the next decade. The deal reinforced Alghanim’s strategy to partner with international F&B franchises, and build on its 2013 acquisition of Costa Coffee Kuwait. Alghanim has since invested in refurbishing existing outlets, opening new ones and broadened the product range. It currently operates 34 Costa outlets in Kuwait. Speaking about the progress made, Broad commented: “We’re up against coffee brands that have been in Kuwait longer but we’re seen as one of the best operators of coffee now. We have our own training centre for our baristas and we’ve used celebrity chef Dean Brettschneider from New Zealand to develop a whole new range of cakes and pastries for us, and we’ll continually launch new food ranges [in Costa].” Continuing, Broad said: “It’s all about driving longevity, rather than a short-term profit hit, which historically is how I think they [Costa Kuwait outlets] may well have been run.” There have been a number of changes implemented by Alghanim since its acquisition of Wendy’s Middle East, as Broad explained: “Since buying the business in February last year, it’s taken us some time to start delivering the Wendy’s experience. Here in Dubai, you’ve seen refurbished stores and the launch of our value offer ‘4 for 14’, then the jalapeño freshco, and now the big Angus launch. "So, the traction of the brand is starting the build and our intention was always to open in our home territory of Kuwait.” Broad revealed that after six months of searching for the right location, Alghanim has secured “a fantastic spot where most of the other competitors play” that allows for a drive-through and features “a super new design”, to create what will be the flagship Wendy’s Kuwait. In terms of UAE growth for the fast-casual brand, Broad confirmed that Alghanim has purchased land on Jumeirah Beach Road, next to the Costa Coffee drive-through, to build “a billboard Wendy’s location”, and secured space in The Dubai Mall and the new Oasis Mall extension for two outlets. “We’re gaining momentum. There aren’t many people next year who are going to open 30 plus outlets, and we’re on the lookout for more brands,” Broad reveals. يعتبر كوستا كوفي المقهى الأول في المملكة المتحدة، وهو حاليا منتشر في كافة أنحاء العالم تقريبا، ويحتل في الكويت مكانة متطورة ومرموقة، وله قاعدة كبيرة من الزبائن تنمو بين الحين والآخر، وذلك بفضل الاستراتيجية التي اتبعتها صناعات الغانم بعد أن أخذت وكالتها في عام 2013. وتمتلك كوستا كوفي أجود أنواع القهوة في العالم، إضافة إلى أن صانع القهوة لا يعتمد على "ماكينة صنع القهوة"، فهو يصنعها يدوياً، ويحسب مقدار القهوة، فبالتالي يخرج مشروب القهوة بمذاق عال ومميز، بالإضافة إلى أن كوستا لا تستخدم إلا الحليب الطازج ولم تلجأ الى أنواع أخرى من الحليب الصناعي. كما أن جميع من يعدون القهوة يخضعون إلى تمرين واختبارات تصل مدتها إلى الشهر، وهذا بهدف أن نكون دوما عند حسن ظن زبائنها، وتم تكريم كوستا الكويت مرات عدة من قبل كوستا لندن، وهذا يعتبر إنجازاً وفخراً لنا، بما فيها فوز أحد صانعي القهوة بالكويت بجائزة أفضل رسم على القهوة عالمياً. • حدثنا أكثر عن المقهى، متى تم افتتاحه لأول مرة؟ وكم عدد الفروع حاليا؟ - تم اختيار موقع كوستا كوفي في مجمع شيخة مقابل شارع البلاجات، وذلك لأسباب عديدة، منها أن مواقع افرعنا المنتشرة في انحاء الكويت تقريبا لم تكن استراتيجية لزبائننا، ولم تكن سهلة الوصول او قريبة لهم، ففرع مجمع شيخة له إطلالة مميزة، إذ انه يطل على شارع حيوي ويعتبر من الأماكن المميزة، ويعتبر افتتاح هذا الفرع دليلا على وجهتنا لاختيار الأماكن المميزة، حيث تسعى كوستا خلال الفترات القادمة إلى اختيار أفضل المواقع التي يمكن لزبائنا الوصول إليها بسهولة. • ما هي استراتيجية التوسع القادمة لكوستا كوفي؟ هل لديكم افتتاحات جديدة قريباً؟ - العام 2016 سيكون عام التوسع والتطور في كوستا كوفي، حيث إن خطتنا المستقبلية تتمثل في مهام يجب إنجازها، أولها المحافظة على المكانة التي وصلنا لها في السوق المحلي، والسعي إلى تطوير تلك المكانة من ناحية جودة القهوة والطعام والخدمة. ثانيا نسعى الى تغيير في قائمة الطعام وسوف نشهد تشكيلة جديدة من المنتجات، حيث إن النمط العام تغير، ففي السابق كانت الزبائن تبحث عن القهوة فقط، أما الآن فاصبحوا يبحثون عن القهوة، بالإضافة إلى المأكولات الخفيفة، ما يحتم على كوستا توفيرها بأفضل جودة ولا تقل عن جودة القهوة، ومن بين استراتيجيتها هو التوسع لنتواجد في جميع الأماكن الحيوية، حتى نعمل على خدمة زبائننا الكرام. تصميم إنكليزي • لاحظنا أن التصميم تغير، بماذا يختلف تصميم "أطلس" عن التصاميم الباقية؟ - تصميم وديكور فرع مجمع شيخة صمم في كوستا لندن، ويعتبر أول فرع يتم افتتاحه وفق هذا التصميم خارج إنكلترا، ويعرف هذا التصميم بـ"أطلس"، وهو يختلف عن اي تصميم آخر في عالم كوستا كوفي، خلال السنوات العشر الماضية. وسوف يسمح لنا "أطلس" بعمل تصاميم تختلف من فرع لآخر، وذلك على حسب مساحة كل فرع، إذ يمكن تقسيم الفرع الواحد إلى أماكن على حسب احتياجات الزبائن، مثل الراغبين في القراءة أو الدراسة أو التجمع، وغيرها من تلك الاحتياجات. • ما دور كوستا كوفي في المسؤولية والخدمات الاجتماعية؟ - لكوستا الكويت دوران في المسؤولية الاجتماعية، فعلى النمط العالمي تم تكوين مؤسسة كوستا والتي تهدف إلى تحسين الحياة في المجتمعات الفقيرة الزارعة لبن القهوة. قامت المؤسسة بدعم 41 مشروعاً في 8 بلدان في جميع أنحاء العالم منها مدارس ومكتبات. أما على مستوى دولة الكويت فلها نشاطات ومساهمات كبيرة منها التعاون مع جمعية إنجاز-الكويت التي تهدف إلى تطوير شباب الكويت وإعدادهم ليتمكنوا من العمل بنجاح بعد التخرج. فجامعاتنا تخرّج ما يقارب 20 ألف طالب سنوياً، والقطاع الخاص لا يستطيع استقبال أكثر من 5 آلاف خريج سنويا، فهناك 15 ألف طالب لم يحصل على وظيفة، فإذا كان غير مؤهل لهذه المرحلة فإنه سوف يتعرض إلى صعوبات ومشاكل في حياته العملية والمهنية.

Costa Coffee launched its first store in Kuwait in 2001 after signing a franchise agreement with Kuwait Aviation Services Company, KASCO. KASCO launched 12 locations in 7 years and sold the franchise rights to Hussain Murad Behbehani General Trading and Contracting Establishment . Hussain Murad Behbehani operates 23 Costa outlets in Kuwait as of 2012.
